The craft of selling relies on emotion as much as it relies on effort. If you’ve got someone on your team who is not motivated and just wants to do their job and go home, you have to make a change. One 9-to-5er will spoil your team.
So, how can you motivate someone that seems unmotivated? After all, you can’t go around firing everyone. Try this process:
Have one sit-down meeting with the individual and try to understand their lack of desire. If it’s a temporary situation, then establish a plan and work to get them through it. If it’s their innate attitude and they’re at work just because they have to be, then make a change. Your focus should be on your team and the ambitious overachievers. Do not risk the emotions of your entire team for one person that might not belong.
