How to Align System Integrator Sales and Marketing Teams: Part 1 - Content Sharing

By Jamie Gosweiler| May 27, 2021 5:44:07 PM | 0 Comments

While the terms “sales” and “marketing” are often combined to describe one large team of people, the fact is that sales and marketing are quite different from each other.

The modern day marketing team is in place to enable the sales team to perform their tasks efficiently by supplying the digital content assets necessary to move clients through the sales process from information discovery to purchase decision.

With that distinction in mind, it is important to consider how critical it is for both teams to have clear communication, sharing of a common vision and mission, and a true sense of what is happening during sales meetings. Without alignment, sales and marketing efforts may be disconnected from each other.

So, let’s talk about sharing ideas between sales and marketing departments by creating a content curation team.

The Value of Content Sharing

By creating a team consisting of both sales team members and marketing team members, ideas can be shared that allow the marketing team to create content that resonates with clients and supports the efforts of the sales team. The resulting content may come to the sales team in the form of blog articles, white papers, videos, or even website design.

What to Share

Consider the value of discussing topics that are timely and important to the users and consumers of the content.

Think about conducting brainstorming sessions on a monthly or quarterly basis about the following topics:

  1. Current industry trends that are fading or growing
  2. Pain points experienced by new clients
  3. Pain points experienced by existing clients
  4. Sharing stories about exciting wins the sales team has had and why it seemed to go well
  5. Sharing the pains of why a loss was so painful to the sales team and what might have been done better next time to see a different result
  6. Discuss fresh leads that have come in and why they have promising potential
  7. Discuss any new ideas that the sales team thinks would benefit the process if they had the materials to support a new campaign

Teamwork

Bringing teams together on a regular basis with the intent of sharing ideas to improve the business landscape can have significant benefits to any systems integration company.

Likewise, teamwork with an outside firm can add yet another level of excitement and perspective to this initiative.
