I’m always reading or listening for ideas to make my days more productive, and methods to staying ahead of the curve in the ever-changing world of selling. Two of the most common themes I hear are somewhat contradictory. A very popular mantra that leads to increased productivity is to eliminate or minimize your exposure to social media; while one of the weaknesses that most sales people have in the security industry is their lack of social media exposure. So, how can you build a personal brand on Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. while avoiding these parasites of attention spans?
Here's your Action Step: Check your social media outlets twice a day. Once in the morning and again about 4:00. Block off 10 minutes for each session. First check your notifications and messages. Then check out any group discussions. Finally, peruse through the updates and check out what’s happening – always sharing or commenting.
One of the best ways to gain exposure is to be active in sharing and commenting on other’s status updates or posts. As you scroll down, get active to liking, sharing, or commenting on the post. The author will appreciate it, and you’ll start to gain exposure to all of their contacts. Give yourself 10 minutes and then get back to work.
