The best time to email a prospect is…

I receive dozens of solicitation emails during the week that don’t receive responses. Some of them actually interest me, but when its 1:30 on a Monday afternoon and I have 100 other emails to address, I’m not going to respond. Unless they’re offering something that I urgently need at that moment, I’ll pass. However, if the same exact email was sent to me at a time in the day when I was attentive to my inbox but not bombarded with other emails, I’d respond.

When is that? When are most prospects attentive to their email but not receiving dozens every hour? ...

Early in the morning – and I mean real early – between 5:30 and 6:30. Most influencers and decision-makers check their email on their smart phone between getting out of bed and getting in the shower. Ok, maybe they’re not that obsessive, but they will take a glance sometime within the first hour of being awake. Guess what, no one else is emailing them. I’m a morning person. I’m in my office by 5:15 at the latest every morning. I don’t see the first email from a solicitor or media newsletter until about 7:50.

You’re not a morning person? Ok, send the email the day before and delay delivery until early the next morning. If you use Outlook, within the Options tab of the email, click Delay Delivery to schedule your email delivery.

Idea for this week: Email your prospects between 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning.
