I know advertising works, but it seems to have an indirect effect.  Maybe I ate Rice Krispies as a kid because of Snap, Crackle, and Pop, but I never made that direct correlation.  I just asked my mom to buy Rice Krispies.  I’m sure it made a huge impression subconsciously, but I don’t ever remember trying a brand consciously because of the advertising… until my late 30s.

Dos Equis introduced The Most Interesting Man in the World in 2007, and I immediately loved the guy.  I thought this campaign was hilarious from the beginning.  In fact, when I’m in a Mexican restaurant I will choose Dos Equis purely because of The Most Interesting Man in the World.  I feel like I owe it to Dos Equis because of all the entertainment they’ve provided me over the years.  Until he came along, I always chose Pacifico, but not now.

Well, Dos Equis announced that they are retiring The Most Interesting Man in the World.  In celebration, I’ve listed my top 10 quotes they’ve created about him.  (I’m not sure if #3 is official, but I kept it on there anyway because if made me laugh out loud when I read it online years ago)…

  1. He knows the last digit of pi.
  2. He gets upgraded on flights he’s not even on.
  3. He once parallel parked a train.
  4. If he punched you in the face, you’d have to fight a strong urge to thank him.
  5. He once had an awkward moment, just to see how it feels.
  6. He gave his father “the talk”.
  7. He doesn’t drink seasonal lattes … or lattes at all for that matter.
  8. He does his own taxes, with a knife.
  9. When he wants a second opinion, he talks to himself.
  10. Lifeguards feel safer when he is in the water.

I hope you enjoyed, and stay thirsty my friend.
