Several years ago, I made a very small change in my life that has made a positive impact on my daily process. In this post, I’ll share the idea with you. This post is the shortest one I’ve written because the challenge I overcame is so common and obvious that I don’t need to convince you of its rot; and the solution is so simple that it’ll take you about 10 seconds.
What did I do? I removed the Facebook app from my phone. To be clear, I did not delete my Facebook account – I can still view Facebook from my computer. I believe there are dozens of benefits to Facebook: staying on top of distant friends and family, finding old classmates, organizing events, etc. However, the negative rhetoric and indirect boasting that fills about 75% of the posts drain my energy. Here’s the cool part: you can gain all the benefits by checking your computer once or twice a week, and you don’t get sucked into the garbage.
That’s it – delete your Facebook app from your phone. Try it for three weeks, and see how it goes. It’ll be strange for a day or two, but then you won’t even notice … except for the extra step you have in your day.
Special thanks to my friend and fraternity brother, Brian Murray, for sharing this idea with me.
