Top five networking ideas for salespeople: Idea #3

In the coming months, salespeople will find themselves with in-person networking opportunities.  Although most salespeople are looking forward to these changes, we might be a bit rusty. So, I thought it would be a good idea to write a five-part series with ideas that can make you an amazing networker. So far, we’ve shared Join the right organizations, and Know the difference between socializing and networking. Today, I bring you our third idea.

Idea #3: Take on a leadership role.

A friend of mine is a business owner who is very involved in her community. She is a member of multiple organizations that put her in front of dozens of decision-makers that can bring her company more business. However, she doesn’t stop at just participating at the events. She has taken a leadership role in every organization in which she is a member. She considers these leadership roles free advertising for her business. When she does an amazing job as an event coordinator, treasurer, or president, the entire membership witnesses her competence and work ethic, and they assume that her company performs at the same peak level. She’s not just part of these organizations, she leads.

After joining the right organizations, volunteer for a leadership role. Run for an elected office. Then, do an amazing job. Give the role the same attention you give your job, and you’ll soon realize that these roles are simply extensions to your job!
