The easiest way a good sales person can become great is to improve their productivity throughout the day. If one’s skill level stays the same, but they become 25% more efficient, then their sales will increase by 25% - sales performance is directly related to efficiency.
Unfortunately, it’s also one of the most underrated qualities of a sales person. We always bring up a great sales person’s persistence, ability to identify problems, or capability to make everyone a friend. When is the last time you discussed the efficiency or productivity of another sales person?
Therefore, this week I’m going to present three of the best ideas to helping you become more productive and efficient. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, I’m sort of taking the easy way out on Strategy #1…
Read these three books:
The 4 Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss
The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz
Getting Things Done by David Allen
I suggest reading these three books in the order listed. Ferriss will get you excited about utilizing some of the craziest techniques and newest technology to make yourself more productive. He’s a bit of a jerk in his tone, but his content is excellent. After reading The 4 Hour Workweek, you’ll want this new way of working and living.
The Power of Full Engagement will take your enthusiasm and use it to apply some concepts to managing life. Loehr and Schwartz use real clients of theirs to illustrate the great advantages that can be yours if you follow some ideas in your day to day routine.
Finally, bring it all home with Getting Things Done. Allen will walk you through step-by-step procedures to the most granular of ideas. From organizing your filing cabinet to setting up your email properly, he provides detailed instructions on how to get things done.
You don’t have to read all three of these in a week, but get started this week.
I’m curious, have you read any of these? Have they helped you become a better sales professional?
