I post a different piece on our blog every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  However, you may have just received this in your inbox today, Wednesday.  Why?  Well, time got the best of me and I fell behind this week.  In fact, I’ve been behind since the ISC West show in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.  The number of requests are greater than the time allotted, and simple math will tell you that something must give.  In my scenario, it was yesterday’s blog post.

This happens to all of us, but especially sales professionals.  As much as we may try to stay in process, reality sometimes throws a wrench (or an amazing opportunity) into the process.  We have to adjust.  We have to delay certain tasks and projects.  We have to give up something.  The great ones don’t avoid these times.  However, they’re able to transition back to process much easier than most.  Their direction changes a little, but they never get taken off route completely.  As the dust clears, they’re able to change their trajectory back to their proven routine because they never got taken too far off track.

How do they do this?  While everyone has their own tricks, I’ve found that having a Sales Professional’s Off-Road Checklist is the best strategy.  When life or customers (or both) knock you off of your path, this checklist keeps you heading in the right general direction and keeps you from losing it all together.
