Be Yourself

I recently invested in a new website design and am starting over with my blogging … and this is my very first entry.  As I’ve been struggling on the topic, I thought why not ask the granddaddy question of them all … what is the #1 most important factor in selling?

After 20+ years of sales and sales management, including five years of running Vector Firm where companies pay me to guide their sales strategies, my answer is ridiculously simple.  It’s a “Matthew McConaughey” answer.

I’ve created nine sales programs that outline a philosophy of selling electronic security.  I’ve written over 400 blogs or discussions.  Yet my answer could be one given by a 7 year-old.  My answer is not persistence, charisma, or intelligence.  It’s not relationships, experience, or grit.

The most important factor is selling is to be real.  Be yourself. Be your imperfect, vulnerable, insecure, competitive self.  All these other factors are important and necessary, but none of them matter if you’re not real.  So, go ahead … be yourself and watch your custom ers flock to you.
