After a brief interruption to post our series: Ten things salespeople can do during this crazy time, we’re restarting our series on Local SEO Best Practices for System Integrators.

In addition to creating content with a local touch on your blog and website, there are important, behind the scenes updates that need to be performed as well. Some of these steps will benefit from a review of existing content on your blog and website. In part 3 of our series on Local SEO for System Integrators, we cover some important updates to make on your website and blog.

Internal Page Links

Google has rewarded website pages with higher ranking for serving as the source of original content. This has been measured and rewarded by recognizing links from external websites, blog posts, and other sources. However, linking from one page to another, also known as back-linking, within your website and blog can be equally beneficial to your Google ranking.

Be sure that you provide links from one web or blog page to another internal page. This will not only help Google, but it will help prospects who find your page navigate from topic to topic easily without having to navigate through menus at the top of your page.

Optimized URL and Other Page Formatting

Be sure that the URL of your blog and website pages includes local terminology if possible. Also, be sure to consider the content of your title tags, page headers, and meta descriptions. These fields are used by Google for indexing and ranking, so special care should be used to use specific terminology not only about the topic, but also about location if possible.

Branch or Office Location Pages

It’s common to place all your locations on your well-organized Contact Us page, however, by creating a unique page for each of your office locations you will increase each page’s Google rank by optimizing for local content search.

Service and Product Pages

While you may want to try to keep your website streamlined, don’t get too efficient. Consider creating a separate web page for every product or service you offer. Again, Google will see the specificity of the page and assign it a higher page rank if someone is searching for that topic, especially with local optimization.

Content, Content, Content

Content is still king. However, remember to add a local touch to everything you create and publish.  Consider local case studies and success stories, local events and trade shows, local news related to your business, and solutions relevant and unique to local customers. Add those city and state names to the title of your case studies and people will find them as they are using local keywords.

Mobile Friendly / Mobile Responsive

Years ago, it became very important to migrate websites to mobile friendly platforms. If your company didn’t make the move, it’s a must-do-now item for you to work on ASAP. Then, be sure that you take the time to review how your site looks on a mobile device. The appearance differences between mobile and desktop can be significant.

Next, in Part 4 of the series: Local Directories

Next week we’ll look at more behind the scenes optimizations for your website and blog. In the meantime, be sure to act on Parts 1-3 for optimal optimizing!
