Most desired outcomes have a key time interval on which people should focus if they want success. Movie studios release Oscar hopefuls in November and December, thoroughbreds begin their training between 18 and 24 months old, and every hitter and pitcher will tell you the vast difference between a 1-0 count and an 0-1 count.
The same concept can be said about achieving annual goals. The weeks between January 20 – February 20, give or take a few days, are critical to success. Without intentional awareness, the rest of the year can be a loss.
We’ve all been there. Excitement out of the gate, change of behavior and attitude to open the year, and then life smacks you in the face. This usually happens between the third week of January and third week of February. Even the best intentions and attitude can be swayed … unless you’re prepared. Have a back-up plan that might bend but won’t break. Have an uncompromising goal that you’ll move into late February still on the program.
Writing down your goals matters, but action is what really matters. There is a beast threatening your success between January 20 and February 20. If you prepare, you’ll succeed!
