I post a blog every single work day. My posts are shared on LinkedIn, Twitter, and my business Facebook. In the afternoon, we share an older blog post on the same networks. I contribute posts or discussions to about a half dozen other outlets. I’ve been published in several trade magazines, and I speak in front of hundreds of people every month.
Guess what? Every time someone likes or shares any of my posts, I’m thrilled. Every time I don’t receive any attention, I’m disappointed. Now, if someone that puts himself out there as frequently as I do is vulnerable to his audience’s opinion, think how vulnerable most other people are that post their opinions? This is a huge opportunity for you to help others and promote yourself as a curious expert by using Strategy #3…
Social Media Strategy #3 for Sales People: Help promote others by sharing, liking, and commenting on their posts.
During those 10-15 minutes every day (read Tuesday’s post if you haven’t), get engaged with the discussions that stimulate you. Ask questions with your comment, offer compliments, share with a comment, etc. Just last week, I had two friends share my weekly personal post of Facebook and state in their posts something like “My friend Chris Peterson wrote this piece – check it out.” Several of their friends were reading and commenting on my post – people I’ve never met in person or even on social media. Do you think I’m indebted to those two? Of course – I greatly appreciate their gesture.
Besides being a nice person, you’ll also be sharing good information with your network. Eventually, they’ll look for your posts because you’re bringing your followers great articles and information – even though someone else is writing it!
I hope you enjoyed these three strategies and Tuesday’s idea. Social Media can be (and should be) a simple process for sales people. Keep it simple, and watch your reputation as an expert grow!
