Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an important area for all businesses to focus on. Search engines are arguably one of the highest converting marketing channels. Since your customers are actively searching for answers to their questions and solutions to their problems on Google, they’re likely to download your offer or sign up for a consultation or demo if you can provide them with what they’re looking for.

If you’ve ever spent time researching how to improve your rankings, then you know it can quickly turn into a technical and somewhat confusing discussion. Backlinks, meta tags, H1 text, keyword proximity, keyword intent, site maps & dozens of other terms and concepts that can be difficult to understand, and time consuming to figure out what to follow.  So, in this post, we’ll share a simple tactic that will help you create great content and improve your ranking in search engines at the same time.

The Multi-Part Blog Series

To build a thriving organic presence online, consider writing a multi-part article for your blog. Using this strategy, you’ll create a single article that provides a high-level overview of a topic and links to supporting posts that delve into the topic’s subtopics. This signals to Google that your main article page is an authority on the topic.

Here’s an example and how you can do this for any topic in any vertical niche.

Step One – Write Your Main article
EXAMPLE - How to Secure a School System – A Multi-Layered Approach

In this article you will set the stage for why school systems should consider a multi-layered security solution and what those “security layers” would include. Remember, the goal is to create a high-level article that highlights supporting pages you’ll be writing about in the series. Publish the article and move to step two. NOTE: The title of your article is important – it should answer a common question that your customer is searching for.

Step Two – Write Your Supporting articles for the series
EXAMPLES: School Parking Lot Security, Visitor Management Systems for Schools, School Metal Detector Options, Access Control Systems for Schools, Video Surveillance for Schools, Securing the Classroom with Electronic Door Locks, Why School Intercom Systems are Critical to Security.

Each of these supporting articles will dive into relevant topics covered in the title. Notice the titles of these articles are also keywords a prospect may type in the search engine. For each supporting article, create a link back to the main article in the series. When you are finished writing each article publish it on your blog.

Step Three – Link Your Main Article to Supporting Topic Articles
To take full advantage of the series, go back to your main article and where you highlighted the topics, create a link to specific articles topics in the series. This will assist those supporting pages gain authority.

Beyond the many SEO and ranking benefits, your customers will appreciate the education on the topic and see you as the subject matter expert.
